Americanism Awards

  • Cooper Award- Awarded annually to that post of The American Legion, Department of Wisconsin doing the most consistent service in the interest of boys between the ages of 8 and 18.
  • McCoy or O.W. Rolfe Americanism Award- Awarded annually to that post of The American Legion, Department of Wisconsin doing the most work in Americanism. Awarded according to post size.
  • Pendill or Harvey V Higley Award- Awarded annually to that post of The American Legion, Department of Wisconsin accomplishing the greatest civic achievement for the preceding year. Awarded according to post size.
  • Athletics and Sports for Spalding Victory Award- Awarded annually to the post sponsoring the most intensive program of diversified sports.
  • Jessel S Whyte Memorial Award- Awarded annually to that post of The American Legion, Department of Wisconsin that has been outstanding in the promotion of The American Legion School Award Program in its community.
  • Henry C Oakey or James F Burns Award- Awarded annually to that post of The American Legion, Department of Wisconsin doing the best service work. Awarded according to post size.
  • Past National Commander Denise H. Rohan Educator of The Year Award- (Updated 2022)- It is the educators in our local communities that we go to in promoting American Legion programs like: Badger Boys State, County Youth Government, Oratorical Scholarships, A & G Testing, Law Enforcement Career Academy, Flag Education, Patriotism and other individual Post Programs. We depend on principals, guidance counselors, individual teachers and school staff to promote participation in these programs. This award will show appreciation for the important role these individuals play in promoting our Americanism & Youth Programs.
  • Joseph R Meeks Gung-Ho Award- This award is what some would call the "Legionnaire of the Year." This individual will have exhibited an effort in working with, and towards, any or all of the objectives and principles of the Department Americanism Committee.

Employment Awards

  • Employer of Veterans- Posts submit nominations for businesses that hire veterans. There are three winners chose by the employer's size. Small (50 or fewer employees), Medium (51-200 employees), Large (201 or more employees).
  • Employment Service Award- Awarded annually to an Employment Service Local Office.
  • Employment Service Award LVER or DVOP- Awarded annually to 1 LVER (Local Veterans Employment Representative) and 1 DVOP (Disabled Veterans Outreach Program)
  • Employer of Older Workers Award- Awarded annually to an employer that employs workers over 55.
  • Employer Award-Enhancing the Lives of Disabled Persons- Awarded annually to organizations that significantly improve the ability of persons with disabilities to participate in the public life of the community.
  • VAVS Awards-  Awarded annually to VA Volunteers

Public Safety Awards

  • Edward J Ormsby Law & Order Award- Awarded annually to an outstanding Officer in the community.
  • Emergency Medical Technician of the Year Award- Awarded annually to an outstanding EMT in the community.
  • Firefighter of the Year Award- Awarded annually to an outstanding Firefighter in the community.
  • Enlisted National Guard/Reservist of the Year Award- Awarded annually to an outstanding Guard/Reservist in the community.

  • Arline Rintoul Award- The Arline Rintoul Memorial Award is presented to an outstanding woman Legionnaire by the 20/4, Honor Society of Women Legionnaires.
  • Children & Youth Ambassador Award
  • County Commander of the Year Award- Awarded annually to the 100% County Commander doing outstanding work in their District.
  • Eagle Scout of the Year
  • Square Knot Award
  • Historian Awards- Due to the Department the 2nd Friday in June by 3:00 PM- NEW! The National Contest now accepts 1 digital Department, 1 digital Post submission, and 1 Hard-copy submission from each Department. Only the Department Histories are judged at the National level. Post submissions will be showcased at the National Level, but not judged. The Department will continue to award a Post & District History Book to be recognized at the Department Convention (digital or hard-copy). For the contest rules and guidelines see the 2025 Historian's Guide below.
  • Legislator of the Year- Awarded annually to a Legislator doing work on behalf of veterans.
  • Martha Marlowe Post Chaplain Award- Awarded annually to recognize an outstanding Post Chaplain
  • Post Honor Guard Award- Awarded annually to posts and individuals dedicating their time to their Post Honor Guard.
  • Public Relations Awards- There are 5 categories: Digital Media, Press, Radio, Social Media, and Television. Awarded to individuals who support The American Legion and veterans with stories.
