WISCONSIN AMERICAN LEGION COLLEGE BASIC AND INTERMEDIATE COURSES ANNOUNCED!

After several months to refresh and update course materials, the Wisconsin American Legion College announces virtual offerings for both the Basic and Intermediate Courses. The Cost to attend is $10. The Advanced Course will be held in November and December, dates will be announced at a later date.

ATTENTION POST COMMANDERS

2021-2022 VIRTUAL POST COMMANDERS CONFERENCE

A new opportunity for Post Commanders to learn and exchange ideas! Department Commander Greg Eirich will host a virtual Post Commanders Conference, with two sessions to be held on Tuesday August 17 from 6-9PM or Saturday August 21 from 9AM to Noon. These sessions would give Post Commanders direct contact with Commander Eirich and Department Vice Commanders, and set the tone for the 2021-2022 year.

The sessions will be hosted on Zoom by the Wisconsin American Legion College. 80 seats will be available for each conference session. Two Post Commander Courses will be scheduled the following week for those who have not previously attended the course. Sign-ups for the conferences and the follow-on courses will be done on the HQ website, with further instructions to be posted soon. Contact your District Commander or Department Vice Commander for more details.

On this day in 1919, The American Legion is federally chartered, which authorizes the as-yet unincorporated organization to proceed to the adoption of a constitution and bylaws, elect officers “and do all other things necessary” as outlined in U.S. Code, Title 36, Chapters 41-50. Under Chapter 43, “Purposes of corporation,” much of the language is borrowed from the original draft Preamble to The American Legion Constitution with some notable deviations, such as “to promote peace and good will among the peoples of the United States and all the nations of the earth” and “to cement the ties and comradeship born of service.” The original charter outlines the powers and authority of the organization, membership criteria, naming rights, exclusivity to manufacture and use The American Legion emblem, and a requirement that “the organization shall be nonpolitical and, as an organization, shall not promote the candidacy of any person seeking public office.” #AmericanLegionDay ...
