VA Medical Centers Under Review

The American Legion tackles VA issues head on.

The American Legion is based on 4 Pillars. The first of those pillars is Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation. For more than 100 years, the Legion has been the nation’s leading advocate for proper health care and earned benefits for America’s veterans. The Legion was instrumental in creating the Veterans Administration in 1930, and an ardent supporter of its rise to Cabinet status when it became the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in 1989. As the relationship between VA and veterans evolves, the Legion will help VA meet its critical mission.

Legion Wisconsin’s Department Commander annually visits all of the VA facilities in Wisconsin, including the Minneapolis VA and the Iron Mountain VA in Iron Mountain Michigan. The information gathered from these visits is taken to Washington and discussed with Wisconsin’s Congressmen and  Senators. The Department Legislative Committee works diligently to get the proper legislation supported and passed on behalf of Wisconsin’s Veterans.

It's our mission to enhance the lives of our Veterans and their families, inspire the next generation of Wisconsin leaders, and promote the principles of The Legion in every community across the Badger State.

Together, we can accomplish so much for those who need us. We welcome you to our Legion Family.

CALL TO ACTION! During this period of social distancing, America’s heroes – our Veterans – are at risk. We will lose more than 1,000 Veterans to suicide during this quarantine… and that number could be much higher as Veterans young and old have lost access to the activities that keep them going.

We can help them. The Virtual Rise and Shine Challenge is a great way to show support for at-risk Veterans who are feeling disconnected or discouraged.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS - On April 11, we ask that you RISE, SHINE, and SHARE and show your support for those heroes who gave so much to keep us safe. They need to know they are NEVER alone.

RISE: Get up on April 11 and choose the right workout for you. Walk, run, bike, hike, lift, or just knockout some pushups and jumping jacks. Do whatever you can to keep yourself healthy. The healthier we all are, the faster we will beat this virus.

SHINE: Show off your workout and leave a video, picture or note with your workout so we can show our Veterans that you’re thinking of them and that they aren’t alone.

SHARE: Ask others to join the challenge. This is easy to do and will bring smiles to so many during this difficult time.
