Legislative Committee Liaisons

On the National level, The American Legion has a Legislative Commission to make sure our voices are heard in Washington.  Past National Vice Commander / Past Department Commander Russ Hanseter sits on this national commission.  During Midwinter, PNVC Hanseter discussed how the National Legislative Council worked, by having a Wisconsin Legionnaire assigned to each of our representatives in Washington.  As legislative issues are brought forward on the National level, the assigned Legionnaires are notified to contact their assigned representative to make sure our voices are heard in a timely manner.  Once contact with the assigned representative is made, the Legionnaires report back to PNVC Hanseter.  PNVC Hanseter then forwards a Wisconsin report back to National.

I have asked the Department Legislative Committee to create a similar Legislative system for contacting our state representatives.

At this time, we are actively looking for Legionnaires from across the state who are interested in working in support of American Legion legislative initiatives.  If you are interested in making and maintaining contact with your local State Senators and Representatives on behalf of The Wisconsin American Legion please contact Department Adjutant David Kurtz at Headquarters by calling (608) 745-1090 or by e-mail

Interested persons will be informed of the legislative positions of the Department and asked to contact their elected representatives in order to get their support for the Legion agenda.
