Chaplain's Alert for March 24, 2016

Colonel Donald L. Heiliger (USAF Ret.) passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at the age of 79.  He was a member of Stoughton Post No. 59.  Heiliger served with the 80th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Yokota AB, Japan and was flying combat missions on a temporary duty assignment when he was forced to eject over North Vietnam on May 15, 1967. Heiliger was captured the next day and spent the next 2,106 days as a Prisoner of War before being released during Operation Homecoming on February 18, 1973.  Further details on his military service can be found here –

Funeral services will be held at HOLY CROSS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2670 Milwaukee St., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Monday, March 28, 2016. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Sunday, March 27, 2016, and at the church from 10 a.m. until… the time of the service on Monday.
