Rules
Contestants shall draw the order in which they appear
Only a single main topic will be required with a length of 8 to 10 minutes, and
must be delivered in the English language. –A penalty of one point will be imposed for speaking for less than or more than the prescribed time.
The Assigned Topic portion of the contest must not consume less than three minutes or more than five minutes for delivery. the purpose of the Assigned Topic is to test the speaker’s knowledge of the subject, the extent of his/her research, and the ability to discuss the topic as related to the basic principals of government under the Constitution.
Immediately before the last Prepared Oration, a card upon which will have the actual words of the Article or Amendment to the Constitution of the United States on it written on it will be drawn by some individual designated by the Chairperson. The topic will only be provided to each contestant five minutes prior to his/her assigned topic presentation.
The use of notes, amplification, lectern, or speakers stand is not permitted. The contestant may have a copy of their Prepared Oration in the First Holding Room, however upon exiting the room to begin the contest, the prepared Oration must be surrendered to the monitoring contest official
All grades and levels will compete at the same time
Students should first submit written drafts to teachers
School officials and Legion members should eliminate students from the draft stage to choose oral semi-finalists
Winners will compete in front of all contestants and guests in the auditorium
