 COMMANDER'S COMMUNIQUE

 OCTOBER 11, 2013

Please see the attached Media Release regarding legislation being considered by the State Legislature.

Senate Bill 13 (SB 13) and its companion bill, Assembly Bill 19 (AB 19), relate to asbestos and Mesothelioma.  Many Wisconsin veterans were exposed to asbestos during their military service suffer the effects of Mesothelioma. Passage of this legislation would place an undue delay for those veterans’ seeking justice by asserting their legal rights.

The Department Executive Committee voted unanimously at the 2013 Spring meetings to oppose this legislation. SB 13, was voted out of the Senate Judiciary & Labor Committee on October 9th. It is now available to be scheduled for a vote in front of the full Senate. The Department of Wisconsin remains in opposition to SB 13.

All Legionnaires are encouraged to contact their respective Senators, and Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald’s office, who is a fellow veteran and Legionnaire, and urge them to oppose SB 13 and not schedule it for a floor vote.
