Operation Winter Spirit – Week 2 Progress Report

Week 2 of Operation Winter Spirit was a week of setbacks. If we were trying to fly combat sorties, the flightline would covered with broken airplanes. Only one district (District 2) made positive progress this week. As a department we went from 1468 behind last year to 1645 behind last year. We have two more weeks (at least) to surge. On the positive side, four more posts have shown growth from last year and are now eligible for consideration for the Post Excellence Award – Random Lake 145 (2nd), Holmen 284 (7th), Luck 255 (12th), and Birchwood 379 (12th). That makes a total of 60 posts that have already exceeded last year’s membership.

The standings after Week 2 of Operation Winter Spirit are:

District 1 / +34                                    District 10 / -1

District 8 / +33                                    District 11 / -3

District 4 / +13                                    District 6 / -28

District 2 / +11                                    District 12 / -35

District 5 / +8                                      District 3 / -43

District 9 / -1                                       District 7 / -100

In the Commander’s challenge to Vice Commander in the race to get their posts to 100% with all proceeds of the bet going to the Legacy Scholarship Fund, the current standings are:

Vice Cmdr Oatman 98.95%

Vice Cmdr Thurk 92.86%

Cmdr Shappell 92.26%

Vice Cmdr Brisk 86.39%

Vice Cmdr Ruland 76.74%

Setbacks are merely opportunities to excel as we move forward. So far only about 86% of our members from last year have renewed. We have 8287 2014 members who have still not renewed for 2015. Last year our retention rate was 92%, one of the highest in the nation. If we renew 92% of those people we will be a 100% Department. It is within our reach – we just need to go after it!
