| Wisconsin Wins Big 12! |
| Thank You! |
Because of your efforts the Wisconsin American Legion has won the Big 12 challenge! Thank you to everyone who renewed their membership and everyone who worked on membership at the Post, County and District levels. Due to a generous increase in the award by National Commander Clarence Hill, the Department will receive $2,500 from the national organization to purchase computer and technology supplies for the office.
As of March 11, the Department stood at 91.97% of its membership goal for the year. |

| Keep Up the Good Work! |
Let’s keep the momentum going! Our next target is 95% by April 14th. Then 100% by May 12th, Armed Forces Day.
Let’s work together to be a 100% Department the same year we are hosting the National Convention!
Thanks a million. Commander Leo | |

| Post Revitalization Procedures |
The National organization has put out a publication called "New Post Start-Up and Revitalization Procedures." This is a valuable resource to assist Posts that are struggling or stagnant.
The publication can be accessed here or in the "Resources" section of our website. |

| Tax Status for Charitable Contributions |
Many Posts have run into problems when requesting charitable contributions or grants from local organizations and businesses. The Wisconsin American Legion and it Posts are 501(c)(19) corporations and donations are tax-deductible. However, many groups that make donations want to give to only 501(c)(3) charitable organizations.
One way to work with these groups and assure them of the tax-decutibility of their gift is to make the request on Legion Post letterhead and include a copy of Pages 65 & 66 of IRS Publication 557 which can be found on the IRS website. http://www.irs.gov/publications/p557/index.html
These pages indicate 501(c)(19) organizations made up of members of the Armed Forces (Legion Post must be 90% are war-time veterans) qualify for charitable contributions. |

| Arline Rantoul Award |
Wisconsin Echelon No. 11, 20/4, annually presents the Arline Rintoul Memorial Award to the Outstanding Woman Legionnaire for that year. The Echelon Selection Committee makes the final decision, but the nominations must come from the individual Posts throughout the State.
We know that there are many outstanding Women Legionnaires. If you have one or more in your Post, we urge you to submit her name for consideration for this prestigious award. Your nomination should be made on the proper form. If you wish to nominate more than one woman, you may photocopy the nomination form. Nominees must be an active member of a Wisconsin American Legion Post for a minimum of three consecutive years prior to her nomination.
There is one stipulation, because the 20/4 is making the award, and because we feel membership in the organization is in itself recognition of outstanding service, members of the 20/4 are not eligible for consideration.
Please complete the nomination form and send it to the Chairwoman listed below before June 1st, so that your nominee can be considered for this year’s award. As the recipient of this award is not announced until the State Convention, we ask that you will cooperate with us and keep your nominations confidential. All nominees will be considered for membership in the 20/4 after the winner has been selected each year.
